The VW Kombi/Beetle passion is largely misunderstood by many with only those who have owned one truly appreciating what it means to drive and experience this icon.
Sure there are days you curse yet another breakdown or look at the driveway resembling a canvas of Monet inspired oil leaks or when you wish you had air conditioning. After all this you still regret selling your last Kombi or Beetle…..now that’s VW passion !!!!
But then there are days you love going for Sunday drives & winding down the window or pop-out safari windows to enjoy the simplicity of life. The days you go to another VW event and listen to other people’s unique VW experiences. Yes you know..those ‘I remember when’ moments when dad used to drive around in an old rusty beetle with a hole in the floor or you drove around Australia in a ‘pop-top’ camper van or when on holidays in Peru you saw a fleet of Beetle Taxis and you deliberately chose to travel in the worst possible rusty beetle with no wheel guards only to find the driver proudly showing off his stereo system which was clearly worth more than the car itself or the days you were shuttled in an 8-seater splitscreen Kombi from the plane across the tarmac at Sydney airport or when you drove in a Konvoy of Kombis going to the Old Bar Beach Festival or annual Bus Stop event with everyone you pass honking their horn or giving you the ‘peace’ sign.
Ultimately we love the undeniable ‘buzz’ that passes through your VW veins when you pass another Kombi or Beetle driving in the opposite direction and simultaneously flash your lights give each other that unmistakable ‘wave’ of acknowledgment which simply says: “Yes …you’re one of us !!!”
